NHTSA Standing General Order crash reports
NHTSA’s Standing General Order requires identified manufacturers and operators to report certain crashes involving vehicles equipped with automated driving systems (ADS) or SAE Level 2 driver assistance systems. For ADS, a crash must be reported if the system was in use at any time within 30 seconds of the crash and the crash resulted in certain property damage or injury. The order was first issued in 2021 and amended in 2021, 2023 and 2025; the third amendment was issued April 24, 2025 and took effect June 16, 2025. NHTSA publishes summary incident report data for download, updated monthly, and notes that the data are not normalized and may be incomplete or unverified.
